Equine Training & Coaching for horses and their humans

Positive-reinforcement-based support for horses, ponies, and the people who care for them.

At The Flow Farm, Animal Training Instruction is practical, welfare-led, and centred on clear communication between horse and human. The focus is not on forcing a horse through a checklist, but on understanding the horse in front of us and building skills in small, achievable steps.

This work may support groundwork, cooperative care, calm handling, confidence-building, leading, catching, standing, trailer loading, preparation for routine care, and everyday horse-human communication.

My approach

I work with positive reinforcement, careful observation, and consent-aware handling. That means paying attention to what the horse is communicating, setting up the environment thoughtfully, and helping both horse and human feel clearer and safer.

Training is shaped around the individual partnership. Some horses need confidence. Some need clarity. Some need time to feel safe. Some humans need help with timing, body language, reinforcement, boundaries, or knowing what to do next.

The aim is to give you practical tools you can use between sessions, not just a nice moment during the appointment.

This may suit you if

  1. your horse is anxious, shut down, pushy, worried, or easily overwhelmed
  2. you want to build safer, calmer groundwork
  3. everyday care tasks have become difficult
  4. you are interested in positive reinforcement but need help applying it in real life
  5. you want support with cooperative care, handling, leading, standing, trailer loading, catching, or confidence
  6. you want a kinder structure rather than another bag of random internet advice
  7. you would like to better understand your horse’s behaviour and communication

What sessions may include

Depending on your horse and your goals, sessions may include:

  1. observation and assessment of the horse-human partnership
  2. groundwork foundations
  3. positive reinforcement skills for owners
  4. cooperative care and husbandry preparation
  5. calm handling and leading
  6. confidence-building for horse and human
  7. problem-solving around everyday routines
  8. helping you create small, realistic training plans

Sessions are arranged by enquiry and shaped around welfare, safety, suitability, and the individual horse-human partnership.

Who it is for

This service is for horse owners, pony owners, handlers, and families who want ethical, practical support with their horse.

It may be suitable whether you are completely new to positive reinforcement or already using it and needing help to make it work more smoothly in real life.

Location

Sessions are based at The Flow Farm in rural County Mayo. Depending on distance, suitability, and practical arrangements, some owner coaching may also be possible off-site or online.
